Cardiology specialist Dr Ulaankhuu Batgerel said there is an increase in cases of heart attacks in the summer months and said high temperatures and humidity can cause the body to become dehydrated if not enough water is consumed.
Dr. Batgerel, a cardiology specialist, explained the 4 most common mistakes that threaten heart health in the summer and made important warnings and suggestions.
NOT DRINKING ENOUGH WATER: IT’S BAD!
IN FACT: It is very important to maintain fluid balance in the body, especially in such hot weather. Consuming at least 2-2.5 liters of water a day helps prevent dehydration and protects heart health. Otherwise, dehydration causes the blood to become heavier, which increases the workload of the heart and can lead to a heart attack. Therefore, regular water consumption should not be neglected.
IGNORING DIET AT OPEN BUFFET: WRONG!
IN FACT: Avoiding heavy, fatty meals during the summer months and eating light, healthy foods rich in vegetables, fruit and fibre is very important for heart health. However, especially during the summer holidays, due to the unlimited food and drink offered at the all-you-can-eat buffet, diet can be neglected and lead to dangers with sweets, salty foods, pastries and sugary/alcoholic drinks. For this reason, it is of great importance to be careful not to overindulge in order not to endanger heart health.
NOT ADJUSTING THE DOSE OF THE MEDICATION AND EXPOSING IT TO HEAT: INCORRECT!
IN FACT: Cardiology specialist Dr. Ulaankhuu Batgerel says: “Many heart patients are unaware that the dosage of many medications must be adjusted by their doctor during the summer months. However, high temperatures can reduce the effectiveness of medications and put heart health at risk. For this reason, it is of great importance that medications are adjusted to summer conditions under the supervision of a doctor and stored in appropriate conditions, i.e. in cool, dry places.”
DOING INTENSIVE PHYSICAL ACTIVITY: INCORRECT!
IN FACT: Exercising too much in hot weather puts a lot of strain on your heart and can lead to a heart attack. Therefore, it is essential to avoid overexertion and direct exposure to the sun, stay in cool places, and exercise early in the morning or late in the afternoon. By following these rules, you can keep your body temperature under control and promote heart health by reducing the stress on your heart.
