CINCINNATI — Bengals owner Mike Brown spoke to the media on Monday before training camp begins this week.
The soon-to-be 89-year-old admitted he made a mistake last season when he lifted Joe Burrow into his golf cart at the start of practice when the star quarterback was dealing with a calf injury ahead of their Week 3 matchup with the Rams.
“I try to stay out of the way enough so I’m not in the way. I don’t want to be a problem for the coaches,” Brown said. “At that particular time I went overboard and did something stupid. I was adamant that I shouldn’t play and it looked like he wanted to play in that game and I went out and told him I wasn’t going to play. I was going to make sure he didn’t play, and he did play. … I still feel a little embarrassed about that.”
Burrow not only started against the Rams on Monday Night Football, but led Cincinnati to a 19-16 victory, completing 26 of 49 passes for 259 yards.
