Bridal makeup expert shares three common skin mistakes to avoid before your wedding

Bridal makeup artist and skincare expert Annette O’Brien has revealed the beauty mistakes brides-to-be should avoid before walking down the aisle.

A wedding is often considered one of, if not the, most special day in your life, and it’s a day that requires a lot of planning. Many brides take special care of their skin before the big day to ensure that their makeup looks perfect on their face.

Skincare in general can be overwhelming, and even more so for brides. But beauty expert and author of The Bridal Skincare Bible, Annette O’Brien, has shared her expert advice, including mistakes anyone about to get married should avoid.

Annette tells RSVP Live: “Any waxing or tinting should be done a week before, just in case you get a breakout. I know a lot of skincare specialists say a week before the wedding is fine to get a facial, but trust me, I’d say three weeks before is plenty of time for the last one.

“Don’t use any new skincare products 2-3 weeks before your wedding. Stick to what you already know and don’t change anything.

“Also, brides can be very strict with their diet in the lead up, but I would say just enjoy that time. Eat and drink whatever you want, I will take care of your skin in the morning because you need to be relaxed.”

If you’re recently engaged and looking to start a skincare journey before the big day, Annette recommends starting your preparations at least 12 months before your wedding.

She says: “With twelve months ahead of you, you have plenty of time. First, you can get a consultation with a skincare specialist. You may need to start gradually adding medical products to your skincare routine. We use our regular cleanser and moisturiser, but to use a product with active ingredients you need to do it gradually, otherwise you risk damaging your skin. If you do it 4 or 5 months before the wedding, it will be too late.

“Twelve months is enough time to begin any facial or injectable treatment, if you choose to do so.”
