Greece is undoubtedly an idyllic holiday destination.
With countless picturesque beaches and a rich cultural history, there are plenty of things to see and do. But Priyanka Juneja, a US-based travel blogger, suggests that tourists make three classic mistakes when exploring this European destination.
On TikTok, under the username @psjuneja, she said: “You definitely don’t want to make these mistakes when planning a trip to Greece. (Firstly) if you can, you want to avoid travelling to Greece during peak season because it’s going to be very crowded and you’re less likely to find hotel deals.”
Priyanka said that June, July and August are the busiest months for tourists to Greece. Moreover, its tourist hotspots are much less crowded during May, September and October, the months when many children return to school after the summer holidays.
He added: “Don’t make the mistake of travelling only to Santorini or Mykonos for example (…) there is a lot to discover.”
Believe it or not, Greece is made up of no less than 6,000 islands, of which only 227 are inhabited. Kefalonia, Icaria, Sifnos and Folegandros are among the most overlooked hidden gems of the Greek islands, according to Original Travel.
Kefalonia in particular is also frequented by loggerhead turtles and even boasts a stunning red sand coastline known as Xi Beach.
The TikTok user praised the virtues of Athens, the beating heart of Ancient Greece, during her recent travelogue. She enthused: “Don’t forget Athens, it’s an amazing city and a lot of people overlook it and go straight to the Greek islands. And I think that’s a huge mistake.”
Her opinions quickly caught the attention of viewers and sparked a heated online debate with many echoing her sentiments. One fellow traveller shared: “I visited Crete, Milos, Athens and Santorini. My least favourite destination was Santorini.”
Another expressed surprise: “How can people not go to Athens?” Then came another comment: “I just went to Athens and loved it so much it was my dream to see it.”
