Fruition preview new album, ‘How To Make Mistakes’, with breakout single “Saturday Night” (listen)

Fruition has announced the upcoming release of the group’s first album in four years, How to make mistakesAugust 23.

Self-produced by the band, composed of Jay Cobb Anderson (vocals, guitar, harmonica), Kellen Asebroek (vocals, guitar, piano), Mimi Naja (voice, guitar, piano, mandolin), Jeff Leonard (low), and tyler thompson (drums)—the new album aims to capture the full scope of the quintet’s live sound, including three-part harmonies and rich rhythm and strings.

The album’s 13 tracks combine an impressive mix of influences and themes, from the rollicking “Hard to Make Money,” which was previously released as a single, and the campfire anthem “Never Change” to the aching longing of “Take It Back” and the blues-inspired search for deeper meaning on “Can You Tell Me.”

“If you do it right, you’re bound to make mistakes,” said vocalist and guitarist Jay Cobb Anderson. “Existence is a complicated business. Grace is not a swan, it’s a dove. The most beautiful and intricate beadwork is often flawed on purpose, to let the soul out. Perfection is not natural. The fondest memories bend and dent. Priceless heirlooms come chipped and cracked, and bruised fruit always tastes a little sweeter.”

Along with the album announcement, Fruition shared a taste of the project in the form of a new single, “Saturday Night,” a laid-back acoustic groove sweetened with the band’s signature vocal harmonies.
