Joe Biden’s unfortunate gaffe on Putin and manhunt after Australian found dead in hotel: Australia news live

Well, this will certainly add to the mounting pressure on US President Joe Biden to call the shots in the upcoming election.

In an unfortunate — and for many, momentous — gaffe, Biden, 81, introduced Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as Vladimir Putin during a speech about U.S. support for Ukraine.

“And now I want to turn it over to the president of Ukraine, who has both courage and determination, ladies and gentlemen, President Putin,” Biden said, referring to Zelensky, before correcting himself.

“I’m going to defeat President Putin, President Zelensky. I’m very focused on defeating Putin,” Biden said, correcting himself.

The blunder prompted gasps from the audience and, predictably, the video quickly spread across the Internet.

Journalist Jack Parrock called it “the biggest mistake that can be made in international diplomacy right now.”

Biden’s ability to seek a second term has been the most hotly debated topic in the United States since his disastrous presidential debate with Donald Trump. A handful of Democrats have said it is time for someone else to lead the party, as have several key party supporters.
