How to avoid the 5 most common Windows errors

When was the last time you checked your computer’s available storage? Too much clutter makes everything run slower. Here’s a quick tip to help you know how much storage you have on your PC.

The next time you install a new program, don’t fall for some developers’ tricks to introduce software you don’t want or need. Perform this step before installing any program on your computer.

Whether your computer is new or old, these tips can help you keep it clean and safer. Read on to see if you’re making these mistakes.

1. You didn’t prevent programs from slowing down startup

Most applications don’t need to start every time you turn on your PC. This just makes it run slower.

You can disable startup apps via Settings in Windows 10 and 11. Here’s how to do it:

• Open Settings through Begin menu or search “settings” on the taskbar.

• Select Applicationsso Start up.

• Click the slider next to each app to disable or enable it.

• Each application has a description showing its impact level. You can disable high-impact applications to speed up your PC.

2. You have to filter out bloatware

It’s not just the programs you love that can slow you down. Most computers have unnecessary apps and programs installed, known as bloatware.

Review your list of apps to identify those you never use and follow these steps to remove them.

Here’s how to remove apps you don’t use in Windows 10:

• Open Settings through Begin menu or search “settings” on the taskbar.

• Select Applicationsso Applications and functions.

• Click on the application you want to remove and select Uninstall.

Here’s how to remove apps from Windows 11:

• Open Settings through Begin menu or search “settings” on the taskbar.

• Select Applicationsso Applications and functions.

• Find the application you want to remove and click on the three points to the right of the application.

• Click Uninstall in the pop-up window.

3. You are not using the features that make your life easier

Accessibility settings can make your devices easier to use. Discover these 10 hidden features in your phone’s accessibility settings.

On a Windows PC, you can also find many useful features. Of course, there is the magnifier tool and text size. You will also find options for keyboard shortcuts, color contrast, voice typing, eye control, subtitle settings, narration, speech recognition, focus, and more.

Windows 10 and 11 have many accessibility features that make them easier to use.

• In Windows 10, you will find these options by going to Settings > Ease of access.

• For machines running Windows 11, go to Settings > Accessibility.

4. You always skip updates

Yes, it’s annoying to have your computer always wanting to update when you’re in the middle of something, but trust me when I say it’s worth it.

Microsoft releases regular updates to add new features or fix vulnerabilities that expose you to hackers and malware.

Automatic updates are turned on by default, but you can manually check for updates at any time by going to Begin > Settings > Windows Updatethen selecting Search for updates.

App developers also update their apps to add new features and fix issues. Microsoft Store may install these updates automatically.

Enable automatic app updates:

• Gonna Begin and select the Microsoft Store

• Click on your profile icon at the top right and select Application Settings.

• Activate the slider next to Application Updates.

5. You are a magnet for malware

No matter what a computer is used for, it is always vulnerable to attacks.

Sure, you can find “free” antivirus software on the Internet or in the various app stores, but can you really trust it? Remember, when something is free, you are the product. At best, these free solutions don’t work very well. At worst, they are the malware you have to worry about.

Here are my tips on how to choose antivirus software.
