HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — It takes more than a driving rain to slow down training camp for DeMeco Ryan. The Texans coach led his team through the seventh practice of training camp in a torrential downpour on Friday, but that doesn’t mean he left satisfied with what he saw.
“Today wasn’t a very good day at all, considering how careless we were,” Ryans said. “There were only penalties before kick-off and the players were where they were supposed to be, so there were a lot of things to put right.”
In one-on-one drills that favor the Texans’ offense, newly acquired wide receiver Stefon Diggs made a one-handed catch that caught everyone’s attention.

Receiver Nico Collins continued to find space against rookie cornerback Kamari Lassiter, and John Metchie broke free for a pair of nice catches.
Overall, the Texans’ defense was the winner of the day. That unit has been consistently disruptive so far in camp. Ryans appreciates the effort, even if the team’s execution needs improvement.
“I love competition and I couldn’t be happier with the level of competition in training,” he said. “For the first six or seven training sessions the competition has been at an elite level.”

The second-year head coach praised what he saw from tight end Brevin Jordan.
He’s also witnessed another clash between his offense and defense. The Texans’ head coach said he understands it can happen, but he also offered this warning for a team with Super Bowl aspirations.
“I don’t want it and I don’t like it. It’s a disgrace and I don’t think it represents who we are as a team or as an organization.”
