Amy Winehouse’s ex-husband Blake Fielder-Civil says he made ‘mistakes’ but didn’t cause her death

“I feel, to be honest, that I’m the only person in that story who has ever had any responsibility,” he told Good Morning Britain.

Amy Winehouse’s ex-husband admitted that he made “mistakes” during their relationship, but he no longer carries the only “burden” of her death.

In an interview with Good morning Great Britain On what would have been the late singer’s 40th birthday, Fielder-Civil, 41, spoke about his time with Winehouse and the idea that people still hold him “responsible” for her death.

“That’s one of the reasons I wanted to talk today. Yes, I do. Yes,” she said, referring to the latter. “And that’s fine. “I can’t change how other people feel about it.”

He added: “But personally, I had to stop carrying that cross on my own. I have carried that burden myself for over 10 years. To be honest, I feel like I’m the only person within that story who has ever taken responsibility, who has ever tried to say, ‘Yeah, I made some huge mistakes.'”

When asked to explain those “mistakes,” Fielder-Civil said, “I was a drug addict in my twenties. So I had no idea how to get clean, let alone someone who was a big cog in my life.” . machine for a record label, and there was a vested interest in Amy continuing to perform.

Host Ben Shephard noted that Winehouse was “very vulnerable” and a “fragile soul”, to which Fielder-Civil responded: “Yes, she was. I think fragility is what people connect with on the albums and on the composition”.

Fielder-Civil and Winehouse had a tumultuous marriage that only lasted from 2007 to 2009.

Over the years, many have continued to blame him for allowing her to have addictive traits and introducing her to lethal substances that ultimately led to her death at age 27 in July 2011.

In a 2018 interview with Good morning Great BritainFielder-Civil said the narrative surrounding his drug use was skewed.

“The drug thing is something that has been attributed to me for years. The fact is that Amy and I only did drugs together for maybe six months of our marriage. That was it. And before that, Amy didn’t do drugs. “She smoked cannabis and I did heroin maybe four or five times,” she said at the time.

He added: “People don’t realize that Amy didn’t do anything that Amy didn’t want to do.”

At the time, he said, “I will always carry a burden of guilt because I should have acted.”

Fielder-Civil now has two children, Lola Jade and Jack.
