Vigil Bosses Respond to Inaccuracies and ‘Mistakes’ During Season 2 Premiere

Vigil bosses Tom Edge and Jake Lushington have responded to the show’s inaccuracies and “mistakes.”

The BBC One procedural drama returned for its second series on December 10, following DCI Amy Silva (Doctor Foster’s Suranne Jones) as she investigates the world of drone warfare when multiple murders occur at a Scottish military base.

While there are some inaccuracies in the show when it comes to military insignia, among other things, Edge and Lushington have revealed that many of them are completely intentional.

During a Q&A session ahead of the second season’s release, Edge explained how they received advice from experts who “played the roles or served” on both seasons of the show.

“We take it seriously. Sometimes we get the response of ‘Oh, you’ve got the buttons wrong.’ But we actually have to get it wrong for copyright reasons,” he added.

Referring to the inaccurate military insignia, Lushington said: “It says ‘British Air Force’ instead of ‘Royal Air Force’ because we are a drama. We fictionalize intentionally.

“Some people sometimes think it’s a mistake. But we actually did it so that the audience can notice some difference from a documentary.”

He continued: “But beyond that, we do as much research as we can and talk to as many people as possible. And sometimes they won’t be able to tell us things, but we can ask ourselves if we’re right or not.”

Edge went on to recall his “favorite, incredibly unbiased response” to the first season, saying, “A rear admiral was asked to comment on the veracity of it and he said all the things that are in the show have happened or could happen.” . , but maybe not in a week.”

Although Lushington also highlighted that they do have advisors, he added that “the formal relationship with these organizations tends to be a little more distant.”

“We’re not doing this directly with any of those organisations. We let them know we’re doing it, but MI5 doesn’t really want to talk to us and that’s probably a good thing.”

Vigil Season 2 airs on BBC One and iPlayer.
