THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: It was discussed in the CPM district secretariat meeting held yesterday that the government’s activities need to be corrected and the growth of the BJP needs to be seriously studied.
Delays in the payment of social assistance pensions influenced the electoral results. At least three months of arrears should have been paid. The high level of criticism against the SFI leadership in connection with the death of Siddharth, a student of Pookode Veterinary College, has backfired. LDF coordinator EP Jayarajan’s meeting with BJP leader Prakash Javadekar on election day brought shame to the party. EP is constantly putting pressure on the party. Leaders said the party can win local elections only if they make corrections.
More serious than the Left Front’s defeat in two constituencies in the district is the huge rise in BJP votes. A study should be done on this. For the third time in a row, the LDF has been relegated to the third position in Thiruvananthapuram. Rajeev Chandrasekhar came very late as a BJP candidate, but the vote received by the candidate is shocking. If Sashi Tharoor had not been the Congress candidate, the result would have been in favor of the BJP.
Many people have received personal benefits from the central government. This includes the families of CPM workers. The Secretariat also assessed that the problems in the local party led to leakage of basic votes. The election review report submitted by the secretary also states that if the votes received by the BJP candidate are not taken seriously despite the party’s district secretary V Joy contesting from Attingal, the constituency will swing in his favour in future. The approach of the police led to alienation of the common people from the party. The district committee meeting of the party will be held today and tomorrow.
