Senator Shehu Sani has warned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu not to follow the path of his predecessor, former President Muhammadu Buhari, in the area of appointments.
The former activist-turned-politician said Tinubu should appoint state officials based on their competence, unlike Buhari, who he said made appointments based on nepotism.
Sani gave the warning last night while appearing on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics.
His words: “I will advise President Tinubu to be careful not to make the same mistakes as President Buhari, and I believe he has the experience to understand this.
“Under the Buhari presidency, there are ministers who were appointed to the position for a period of eight years; They were with him during the first and second terms, and there was no cabinet reshuffle or dismissal.
“Even if there were a dismissal, it would take three to four months to replace a minister. That was how the country was governed.
“During the Buhari government, we have seen nepotism at its peak, where people were appointed to positions and left there even if they did nothing.
“The service chiefs were retained in their positions despite their failures, and by retaining them, the careers of those behind them were destroyed. For many years, many officers were retired to appoint a single person.”
