Divya Dutta spoke about the time she signed 22 films and considered it an achievement, only to get a dose of reality from Aditya Chopra.
Divya Dutta was going through a A pretty good phase in his career. When she signed 22 films at a time, but as soon as she did, YRF director Aditya Chopra made her realise that this was not the right move for her career. In a recent interview, Divya was asked on the mistakes she made regarding her career and recalled signing too many films at once and how Aditya asked her to take a step back.
Divya told Siddharth Kannan, “I remember I once went to see Aditya Chopra. I don’t remember if it was before or after Aaja Nachle. He asked me what was happening. I told him I was doing 22 films. I thought he would be happy and pat me on the back. He didn’t say anything. There was dead silence.” Divya was perplexed when Aditya didn’t congratulate her for signing nearly two dozen films and when she asked him directly if he was not happy, she knew why.

“I asked him ‘are you not happy?’, he said ‘do you need money?’, I said no. He said ‘so leave a legacy, why are you doing so many films?’” she recalled. Divya said this conversation took her on a path of self-realisation where she learnt something about herself. “I started reflecting on why I was doing so many films. I realised that every time I got an offer for a film, it made me feel good, it made me feel wanted, sought after. I was almost overcompensating for the rejections I had faced before. So I ended up signing 22 films,” she recalled.

Divya shared that she changed her decision-making process after this and started doing things that made her happy. “Then, slowly, I stopped and started selecting things that actually made me happy. And after that, my career path changed,” she recalled.
Divya was last seen with Parvin Dabas and Sakshi Tanwar in Tahira Kashyap’s Sharmajee Ki Beti.
