Even a year after the release of the 13th film of the (now dead) DCEU, fans of the comic book genre can’t talk about The flash Not to mention the numerous accusations and controversies surrounding the main protagonist, Ezra Miller. While the pre-James Gunn film is held back by this unfortunate connection, its five-year delay in release while DC Studios went through a host of leadership changes, It led to almost endless storyboard changes and a lot of confusion behind the scenes.This was another unforgettable mistake that will remain in the DCEU installment no matter how many years pass. Despite all this, The flash The biggest fallacy wasn’t found in the personal lives of its cast or what went on behind the scenes, but in its half-hearted attempt to curtail the history of Marvel’s multiverse.

Bringing in other characters like Michael Keaton’s Batman and Sasha Calle’s Supergirl was the biggest mistake.Both Keaton and Calle played their roles to the best of their abilities. There’s no doubt about that, and so did Miller. But the screen time required to not only introduce these supporting characters, but to create substantial side stories for them (it’s questionable whether Batman had such an arc) and make them interesting to the audience, so it detracted from the Flash’s extensive comic book lore. One could argue that this kind of solo-protagonist experiment was already put to the test with Blue beetle (The next DCEU film), which turned out to be the lowest-grossing film in the DC Extended Universe.

The Flash didn’t need to be a team movie

Now that the introduction has changed and his costume is more than just a novelty coming out of a ring, it’s time to address the elephant in the room. What Flash comic book story or villain(s) could replace the frenetic chaos of an alternate Batman/Supergirl/Flash? While we could easily point to someone from Grant Gustin’s show like Zoom or Gorilla Grodd, the easiest and most logical answer comes from the very movie being dissected: Dark Flash.

This would come to fruition without the help of Batman, Supergirl, or any other version of himself.

Although audiences were introduced to Flash in Whedon’s version of The Justice League, There was no need to make such a fuss about trying to recreate the team for The flash. Audiences clearly prefer solo movies when they’re done with emphasis and epic set pieces (not Chronobowl, please and thank you). The world of Central City and all of its residents, whether they’re heroes, villains, or just familiar Flash faces, would have appealed to more people than trying to cash in on nostalgia and other DC-related properties. We can only hope that James Gunn learns from this and creates heroes properly. The flash is streaming on Netflix.
