Max Verstappen has acknowledged costly “mistakes” were made at last weekend’s Austrian Grand Prix and is aiming to bounce back at Silverstone.
The reigning world champion looked set for victory at Red Bull’s home race before being judged guilty of causing a collision with Lando Norris in the closing laps.
Verstappen and Norris suffered significant damage from the crash, which forced both drivers to pit. As a result, Verstappen finished fifth, despite also receiving a 10-second penalty.
This brought to a close a weekend that looked perfect for the reigning world champion, who had topped all the pre-race sessions. Now his aim is to score plenty of points at the British Grand Prix, another of Red Bull’s home races.
“It’s another home race for the team so we want to make everyone back home at the factory proud this weekend,” Verstappen said.
“Austria didn’t turn out as we expected and there were a lot of things to take away from the race that both myself and the team can analyse and work on to improve.
“There were some mistakes in the race that really cost us, however, we have to look at the good times we had throughout the weekend, including winning the Sprint and being on pole twice.
“We are analysing what we did well and what went wrong and it is the last race of a very intense triple-header, so we want to be back fighting at Silverstone.”
Special livery
As 2024 is Red Bull’s 20th season in F1, the Milton Keynes-based team will use a special livery for its home race.
The British GP is a celebratory weekend for Red Bull, and Verstappen wants to use it as inspiration to respond to the disappointment of the Austrian GP.
“It will be a special race, with a new custom livery on the car,” added Verstappen.
“We want to come back stronger and we are ready for the weekend at Silverstone, especially as it is the team’s 20th anniversary, which is a celebration for us.”
