Damian Priest failed to escape a pinfall attempt and was mistakenly counted out by the referee.
WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque addressed the controversy surrounding Damian Priest’s in-ring mistake at Money in the Bank, where Priest failed to escape a pinfall attempt and was mistakenly counted out by the referee. Despite the mistake, Levesque stressed that human errors are inevitable in the ring and that Priest’s overall performance was phenomenal.
“I think it’s a shame that people aren’t talking about it and aren’t saying anything to Damian Priest,” Levesque said at the post-show press conference. “He had a phenomenal performance tonight, but a lot of people are going to attack him, criticize him and comment on him.”
Levesque wished he could have turned off Priest’s phone so he could focus on the positives of their match and his reign as WWE World Heavyweight Champion. “He’s gotten to a point where when I watch him as a wrestler, I feel like I’m watching a champion come out. I feel like I’m watching a top-level guy,” Levesque said.
The referee’s decision to count out Priest stands, and Priest remains the WWE World Heavyweight Champion. Looking ahead, Priest will defend his title against GUNTHER at WWE SummerSlam.
