Royal family
King Charles had many decisions to make once he assumed the throne following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, but one expert says one decision regarding his two grandchildren was a “terrible mistake.”
King Charles assumed the throne after his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, died in 2022. Until then, Charles and his family had been struggling, with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle leaving the family in 2020. Since the Queen’s death, Harry and Meghan have not seen much improvement in their relationship with the other royals.
But when Charles became king, he made a decision regarding Harry and Meghan’s children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, that would change their lives forever.
King Charles made a ‘terrible mistake’ with Archie and Lili, expert says
When Harry and Meghan’s children were born, Queen Elizabeth was still the reigning monarch. However, once she died, Charles had to make a decision: he could either give Harry and Meghan’s children royal titles or not. Ultimately, Charles decided that Archie and Lili were worthy of titles, and they are now prince and princess, respectively. However, it’s no secret that Charles isn’t exactly close to his grandchildren, and one royal expert seems to think that the titles were a “terrible mistake” for the royal family.
“Harry and Meghan have undermined the monarchy and Charles has made a terrible mistake,” royal author Tom Bower told Express. “He should have sidelined them immediately. He should never have allowed his children to become princes and princesses.”
The assumption is that since Archie and Lili are prince and princess, Harry and Meghan will always be tied to the royal family, regardless of the chaos and tension that arises between the two sides. Of course, even if Harry and Meghan didn’t have children, Harry would still be a prince and the two would still be duke and duchess, so perhaps there’s no real difference.
Will Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet ever become working royals?
It’s unlikely that Archie and Lili will ever take on royal duties, but it’s not completely impossible. They are the king’s grandchildren, as are Prince William and Kate Middleton’s children. And while they wouldn’t be able to be working royals until they’re at least 18, there’s a small chance that the children could become closer to their cousins — and that Prince George could eventually allow them to be working royals when he’s king, if the monarchy were forced to work.
But Archie and Lili will most likely never work for the royal family, although now that they have been given those titles, they are entitled to them for life. At most, they could strengthen ties with the family and play a role similar to that of William’s cousins, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie.
