This week, Marvel Comics released the first issue of the new era of the X-Men, From the Ashes. As expected, something important happened during their move to their new home in Alaska. DC is releasing new comics related to their summer event, Absolute power. And Image Comics Transformers Tenth bombshell for readers. These are just some of the comics news you can check out in this article.
Amanda Waller’s plan to steal heroes’ abilities worked perfectly (Absolute power No. 1). All he had to do was find and capture the remaining heroes. As Superman Amazo battles Black Adam, he hesitates. Adam realizes that the Amzos stole more than just powers. They also took the heroes’ morality. This will come into play in future issues of the series. Absolute power Cross.
Waller’s plan is working, but it seems like she lacks foresight. She didn’t think about how other countries would feel nor did she care. Steve Trevor mentions that other countries are worried about what happened to their superheroes/citizens. The US took them illegally and Waller isn’t listening to the president.
If that’s not enough, everything Waller’s done is causing the stock market to crash. Waller says she has someone working on it (probably Brainiac Queen), but how long will it be until she runs out of people to do what she needs? Or maybe this is all part of her plan for world domination.
Captain America and the Ultimates learn that Midas is holding someone prisoner beneath the White House. During their fight, Midas tells Captain that there is a metahuman powering parts of America against its will. After defeating Midas (by snapping his neck), it is revealed that America Chavez was the power source.
The symbolism of starting to save America by saving America, Chavez achieved it brilliantly.
Shockwave had a huge impact on Transformers No. 9. His arrival on Earth led to the capture of two Autobots and the death of another. This was just the beginning. Shockwave created a device strong enough to bring Cybertron into Earth’s orbit.
One of two things is going to happen. Either Cybertron’s arrival will start the war between G.I. Joe and the Transformers, or Optimus Prime and the Autobots will stop Cybertron’s arrival. One thing we can count on is more Transformers coming through the portal. After his appearance during Free Comic Book Day, fans can expect to see Hot Rod.
To no one’s surprise, Amanda Waller had no plans to keep her deal with the leader of the United Planets, Thaaros. Thaaros wants the power source that Hal Jordan uses for his Green Lantern ring and the power ring itself. While interrogating Hal Jordan, Amanda Waller sees an opportunity. She goes to take the Green Lantern ring for herself. Unfortunately for her, Hal Jordan is too stubborn to submit to the torture. She eventually escapes and ends up on a landing pad with dozens of super-powered weapons.
During Heir of the Apocalypse No. 2, Monet St. Croix, Armageddon Girl, and Exodus were all killed. As I said after the issue was published, never trust a comic book death unless you see a body. In Sabah Nur he shows Archangel that they were teleported away the instant they failed. Ten years ago, Apocalypse would have let them die. That shows growth. It also leads me to believe that Archangel will be Apocalypse’s heir.
After Archangel fought his former master, Apocalypse explained his plan and proved that no one had died. This caused Archangel to pause. Seeing what is happening as well as not wanting anyone to be Apocalypse may be how Warren Worthington III becomes Apocalypse’s heir. This would make sense since he has already been Apocalypse (Strange Force Xe) and would take on the burden so that no one else would have to.
The X-Men have no shortage of villains, but it’s great that new ones keep popping up. In this case, it’s the mysterious 3K and the Fourth School.
3K is a secret cabal of four people (The Fanatic, The Doctor, The Media, and The President). Their goal? “To prepare a crucible from which a whole new world will be born.” It’s unclear what that means, but it can’t be good. You can tell they’re important by the way Marvel revealed them. At the end of the issue, there’s a QR code to advance their story.
The Fourth School is a group that was born out of John Sublime. They believe that the third school was one of artificial intelligence, so the fourth must be a combination of AI and mutants. They have taken this line of thinking and decided to add mutant powers and machinery to their bodies. This will likely be the X-Men’s first major victory leading into their battle against 3K.
