Sawan is an extremely important month in Hinduism. This is the month of Lord Shiva and people observe fasts and worship the Lord to seek his blessings. Along with Lord Shiva, Maa Parvati is also worshipped. This year, the month of Shravan will begin tomorrow, Monday, July 22, and will end on Monday, August 19.

Do not wash your hair on Mondays if you are observing Shravan Somwar Vrat. It is believed that washing your hair on Mondays will not help you get the full benefits of fasting.
One should avoid wearing black and blue clothes on Mondays when Shravan Somwar Vrat is celebrated. It is believed that one can attract negative energy if they wear clothes of such colours.
When worshipping the Shiva Linga, do not offer turmeric, vermilion or tulsi leaves as they are considered inauspicious.
However, if you commit any of these mistakes, recite a complete rosary (mala) of the Om Namah Shivay mantra. You should also ask for forgiveness from Lord Shiva.
