The Gambling Commission is investigating five police officers for alleged bets on the timing of the general election, the Metropolitan Police has confirmed.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said they have not been arrested, but confirmed the force’s Professional Standards Directorate has been informed. He added: “Decisions on whether they will be subject to any restrictions will be made in due course.”

A Met Police spokesperson said: “We previously confirmed the arrest of a Met officer on Monday 17 June for misconduct in public office in relation to bets placed on the timing of the general election. The officer, a Royal and Specialized Protection Command police officer, has restricted duties. It remains true that only one officer is under criminal investigation.
“However, we have received information from the Gambling Commission alleging that five more officers have placed bets related to the timing of the elections. The Gambling Commission continues to investigate these matters. The officers have not been arrested, but the Directorate of Gambling Professionals Met standards have been reported.
“Officers are based in the Royal and Specialized Command, the Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command and the Central West Basic Command Unit. “None of them work in an escort role.”
