A video showing Keith Lee being pranked by popular TikToker Gerald Huston at the BET Awards is sweeping social media, sparking both positive and negative reactions from viewers.
TikTok food critic Keith Lee was one of several influencers who attended the BET Awards in late June, but his presence at the event sparked some less-than-positive responses from netizens.
An incident that is going viral online occurred while Lee was walking outside the venue when he was suddenly approached by TikToker Gerald Huston, who is known for his prank videos.
Huston quickly approached Lee and joked that the influencer was actually rapper DDG (who, ironically, looks quite similar to the food critic). Security grabbed Lee by the arms and held him down as the TikToker continued his prank, with Lee telling him, “Don’t do that.”
The security guard even warned Huston that Lee was an MMA fighter and could “knock him out,” but the prankster continued with the joke.
However, Lee appeared to recognize Huston as security escorted him out of the venue, telling him: “I get it, I get your content. I watch you all the time.”
Huston uploaded her video of the prank on July 3, which sparked a lot of conversation about Lee’s response to the prank, as commenters came in with both positive and negative opinions about the situation.
“Why are you all so angry?” one user wrote. “Keith Lee is acting like he is somebody.”
“Keith Lee is acting like a president as a TikTok food critic,” said another.
“Keith Lee has been acting crazy lately,” another added.
Others defended the influencer. One wrote on Instagram: “He already has social anxiety. Stop messing around with people you don’t know personally. He’s also an MMA fighter. Bold decision.”
“A bro came up to Keith Lee and called him DDG and he told him not to do that. And everyone got mad because he doesn’t want to play with boy content lol,” said another.
The negative comments sound similar to others that were thrown at Lee after actress Taraji P. Henson mistook him for Jordan Howlett. Lee uploaded, then quickly deleted, a video of himself throwing a rose on the BET Awards carpet, sparking a flurry of criticism of the TikToker for letting his online fame “go to his head.”
So far, Lee has not offered a response to Huston’s prank video or the backlash it has drawn against him, but he did clarify his video regarding the Taraji Henson incident and gave the actress plenty of praise for how she handled the confusion.
